Katherine Allen is a qualified midwife and graduate in Acupuncture from the London College of Traditional Acupuncture. She has over 30 year’s clinical experience as a midwife, both in Britain and overseas.
Katherine has developed a keen interest in the use of Acupuncture and Shiatsu to promote normality in pregnancy and birth, to help counteract the dramatic rise in medical interventions in low risk births.
Her interest in Traditional Chinese Medicine stems from her experience during her own pregnancy and the birth of her daughter, when she found it provided relief from pregnancy discomfort, and pain in labour. Initially she trained in shiatsu and then went onto study acupuncture for 3 years.
Katherine is also a visiting lecturer at UWE, and lectures on acupuncture to student midwives. She has recently co-written a paper as part of a joint research venture between the University of West Of England in Bristol (UWE) and North Bristol Trust into the use of Moxibustion to correct breech presentation.
Katherine lives in Bristol with her husband.
